Alright ladies, if you have been on the beauty side of TikTok then you have probably heard someone talk about the Dyson Airwrap. It has been the talk of the town by quite a few fashion and beauty influencers, so here is my personal experience with it.
First off, what is it? The Airwrap is a hair styling tool that has multiple attachments to fulfill your various hair care needs. There’s an attachment for curling, a simple blow dry, waves, or even a blowout. The most unique part about this tool is that it styles and dries your hair at the same time! No need to dry your hair first and then have to curl it when you can get both done simultaneously. So, for best results use this on wet/damp hair. If you use this on dry hair, then sadly, your style won’t last the day.
For those of you that are wanting to know the full details of how it all works, and how well, here is my experience with each attachment. As you know, I have thick and curly hair so this is how this tool worked for my hair type.
Smoothing Brush: I was pleasantly surprised with how smooth the smoothing brush got my very curly hair. My hair tends to get frizzy very quickly so I was super impressed with this attachment! If you have curly hair you will definitely want to smooth out your hair before using the barrel attachments. The key to successfully using the barrel is to keep your hair slightly damp that way your curls will hold longer but we’ll talk more about that in the next section.
Curling Barrel: I loved the curling barrel! Just like with anything new — the more you use it the easier it will get, as there is a learning curve when it comes to using it. The one thing I learned while testing it out is that the barrel works best on damp hair. If you use it on dry hair, your curls aren’t going to make it through the day, that was my first mistake when I used this. Since I have naturally curly hair I would let my hair get about 90% dry and smooth, then curled with the barrel. This did let some of my curls come through just a bit — for my ladies with curly hair you know what I mean.
Round Brush: I loved the round brush for after I smoothed out my hair. It was the perfect tool to add some loose curls to the ends of my hair. It’s also perfect for when you need a touch-up to your curls.
Pro Tip: Spray a little dry shampoo into your hair and then use the round brush — this will add extra volume to your roots.
I really hope that they come out with a larger round brush in the future because it’s too small for my hair type. Since I have so much hair, if I were to use this attachment all over my head, it would take me hours and I just don’t have that kind of time anymore.
Pre-Style Dryer: This attachment is great if you are wanting to simply dry your hair. I use this to rough dry my hair to about 70% before using the smoothing brush attachment.
Overall: Because I am someone who loves to blow dry and style my own hair at home the Dyson Airwrap is the healthiest option for my hair compared to a regular blow-dry hair styler. It doesn’t use extreme heat on your hair which will keep your hair looking healthy and vibrant.
If you have super curly hair like mine, you might like it but may have a hard time getting your curls to stay smooth throughout the day.
I loved all of the functions and attachments that it comes with but I think it caters to someone with naturally straight or wavy hair. For those of us with lots of curls, it’s a little less efficient. Not to say that I didn’t like it, because I really do love the way my hair comes out when I use the Dyson Airwrap. It makes my hair feel soft, healthy, bouncy, and leaves it looking shiny.
If you check out my Instagram videos and you have curlier hair than mine, you might struggle with it getting your hair super straight and smooth while making it last, mainly on the fact that your hair has to be damp to use it (especially for the barrels). If you have very curly hair, I would recommend using the round brush at your roots and then smoothing the brush from the strands to the ends.
All in all, do I think the $600 Dyson Airwrap is a necessity? Absolutely not!
Would I ask for it as a gift? Yes! Haha
I wouldn’t say that this is great for all hair types but for those of you with straight or wavy hair then this might be the accessory for you.
